Innovations for sustainable crop production (Innovationer för hållbar växtodling)
This project aims on creating innovative methods and technologies for a more effective and sustainable crop production. It comprises research on new approaches for weed and fungi control, on improved use and reduced loss of plant nutrients, the development of a web portal as precision farming tool, and an agricultural machinery simulator for educational purposes. Furthermore, the project strengthens the Scandinavian cooperation on knowledge building.
The CPA focuses two project goals. First, we target the development of new sensor-based technologies for improved and more sustainable mechanical weeding in cereals. We work closely together with the Norwegian company Adigo AS to develop and test an image-based system for reliable weed detection. Second, we are aiming to provide decision support for improved nitrogen fertilization, yield and quality estimation in cereals and grassland by means of remote sensing. Therefore, we utilize multispectral satellite and hyperspectral airborne imagery from our UAVs. Models developed on the basis of data from these sources are tested for predictive ability in terms of actual biomass and plant nitrogen content around mid-season plant growth stages, along with yield and quality prediction.
